The cocktail bar "Biddy Mulligans" in Edinburgh, Scotland, is a traditional Irish pub located in the heart of the historic Grassmarket area, earning a worldwide reputation for its authentic Irish atmosphere. Just a stone's throw away from Edinburgh Castle and in close proximity to the Royal Mile, this pub embodies vibrant socializing and cultural charm. Since its opening, "Biddy Mulligans" has established itself as a staple of the Old Town, attracting visitors with its blend of traditional Irish hospitality and modern flair. It is a popular meeting spot for locals, tourists, and sports fans who gather to experience the famous "Craic" – the Irish way of fun and good company.

Traditional Irish cuisine in pub

The interior of the pub is a successful combination of rustic charm and functional coziness. The decor reflects the Irish pub tradition, featuring wooden furniture and a warm, inviting atmosphere that is further enhanced by daily live music. Every evening, local bands perform a mix of Irish folk songs and other genres, giving the pub a distinctive energy. A special highlight is "The Wee Pub," Scotland's smallest pub, which adjoins "Biddy Mulligans." With space for only about 20 people, this tiny space offers an intimate atmosphere and can be rented for private celebrations such as birthdays or engagements. Outside, there is a terrace that can be enjoyed on warmer days, providing a wonderful view of the bustling Grassmarket.

Cocktail bar with Irish whiskeys

Culinarily, "Biddy Mulligans" focuses on classic Irish cuisine with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The Full Irish Breakfast is particularly popular, served with crispy bacon, juicy sausages, potato farl, mushrooms, tomatoes, pudding, beans, and a perfectly fried egg – a hearty dish that fuels guests for a day in Edinburgh. The crispy Haggis starter is also often recommended, especially for visitors looking to try the Scottish specialty in an accessible form. For a quick snack, the Smoked Jack Tater Tots are a favorite, impressing with their smoky flavor. In addition to the main dishes, there is a selection of breakfast options like pancake stacks or smoked salmon with eggs, rounding out the offerings.

Vibrant socializing in Grassmarket

The drink selection is a central part of the experience, with the cocktail bar playing a significant role. "Biddy Mulligans" recently introduced its first comprehensive cocktail menu, featuring both classics with a twist and unique creations crafted by skilled bartenders. The pub takes particular pride in its collection of over 25 Irish whiskeys, many of which are exclusive to Scotland – a paradise for whiskey lovers. Perfectly poured pints of Guinness are popular among regulars and visitors alike, as well as a selection of craft beers and Scottish gins. For those missing Irish products, there is also "The Grocery Store," a small shop within the pub offering items like Taytos crisps or Barry's Tea.

Live music in Scottish pubs

The service is friendly and efficient, with orders placed at the bar and food brought to the table – a typical feature of British and Irish pubs. The staff is known for their helpfulness and contributes significantly to the positive atmosphere, even though it can get quite busy during peak times such as St. Patrick’s Day or major sporting events like rugby or GAA broadcasts. The pub regularly shows sports broadcasts, including Gaelic football, hurling, and football, making it a hotspot for fans.

Came here after having dinner at a nearby restaurant. Good live music bar. I think they have live music every day. Good atmosphere also. Ideal for a couple of hours after dinner.

Great atmosphere, well run pub. Friendly staff and good selection of food. The manager Ruari runs a tight ship. Place to go for watching the Six Nations. Only criticism I wish they had Peroni or Heineken lol.

Terrible experience! You have to do the orders food/drinks by yourself and have to pay extra service tax (service that doesn’t exist) 2pounds for each order you do! If you go to order something 3 times you will be charged 3 times the service that they don’t have! The food is small plates/portions and super overpriced! Resumed you do everything by yourself and pay them! You feel like an idiot!! I do not recommend

We enjoyed an evening of drinks and music here during our recent trip to Edinburgh. Great if you're looking for a relaxed pub with live local music. Staff were very friendly. We didn't eat but the food did look good.

We ordered the fish and chips, loaded steak taters, bangers & mash, and sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, all well prepared and satisfying. The beer selection was solid, and the staff recommended Caorunn gin, a Scottish option that was smooth and enjoyable. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, a great spot for classic pub fare.
